The Gloom - Week 10

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, December 21 2007 at 5:35 am

And here we are - the finale of issue one, and the cliffhanger that’ll keep you going through Christmas and the New Year!

As this is the last for a couple of weeks (to give you that ’season break’ feeling), we’ve got three pages for you. And although we’ve no story for the next couple of weeks, we have some sketches and updates that’ll keep you going until we see you again early in January 2008!

Have a very Merry and Gloomy Xmas!

The Gloom - Week 9

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, December 14 2007 at 6:39 am

So, we’re getting near the end of the first issue of The Gloom, with one more week to go before the three page finale and the Christmas break - and boy, is it a doozy! What will happen!

In other news, Dan and I had a very interesting meeting yesterday about a killer project which we can’t talk about yet, but which means that next year there will be even more Dan and Tony goodness, and this time more fantastical than the current supernatural Hope Falls, which, by the way now has issue #2 out in the UK, so will be in US shops any day now.

Anyway, you know the drill - enjoy the strip, drop us a comment to tell us so!

So without further adieu…

The Gloom - Week 8

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, December 7 2007 at 6:45 am

And so it’s time to Jingle jingle jingle your way to the Christmas tree, unless you’re in the US, where you’ve had the decorations in the stores since Easter. And as a little December Advent Calender gift just for you, our little chocolate treat is the first appearance of The Professor, Carson Kane’s old college tutor who’s brain is in the body of a monkey.

Why is this so? Ah, my little friends, all is revealed in issue #3, so you will just have to be patient and trust us.

In other news I received my Professional invite to the New York Comic Con this week, and so I shall be winging my way across the pond to visit with all my NYC minions in April. Count down the days, my little cherubs!

And so, with no further adieu - this week’s installment…

The Gloom - Week 7

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, November 30 2007 at 5:19 am

And so, my little chickadees, today’s installment of The Gloom has been brought to you in association with shock, awe and excitement. For today’s installment of the exciting 1940’s pulp noir hero introduces a new character - Doc Adventure!

(Who in no way whatsoever is Doc Savage. Uh-huh. No way jose. Honest. Would we lie to you.)

Anyway, enjoy, reply and do whatever else you reading deviants do! Remember that Daddy Dan and Daddy Tony love you!

(but we’re not buying you Christmas presents…)

The Gloom - Week 6

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, November 23 2007 at 5:52 am

Well hello there my little chums! I hope that the colonials amongst you all have sated yourself with turkey and stuffing, have watched your sports and are continuing your four day holiday with vigour, remembering that day, many years ago when your forefathers were so crap at project planning that they forgot to get more food from the Wall Mart and had to go ask their neighbours for a cup of… well, everything.

In the UK, we don’t have Thanksgiving, so we have to carry on working. We called yesterday ‘Thursday’. It doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.

Still, if we had been on holiday, then you wouldn’t have had a wonderful double page treat of The Gloom today, would you? So everything is done for a reason. Although I would have preferred some turkey and a day off…

Anyway, enjoy!

The Gloom - Week 5

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, November 16 2007 at 7:10 am

And so we hit week five of the instant classic known as The Gloom.

It’s quite strange really, in the last month we’ve had a few emails from people congratulating us for bringing this back, and for finishing it off, etc - and it’s really great to get that sort of thing. But at the same time, for something that people saw two years ago now, it’s just a little… I don’t know, odd. On a plus note, the pages here look like they’ve helped me and Dan with a possible new exciting gig, so we’ll see what happens and keep you informed.

Anyway, you don’t come here to read my waffle, you want shiny comic goodness! So here’s this week’s fix, with one of my favourite parts of the whole story, where Carson Kane explains how he can’t be the Gloom…

The Gloom - Week 4

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, November 9 2007 at 5:57 am

And so we head into November, and the cooler and colder part of the year. In England during this time we celebrate Bonfire Night by setting off millions of pounds worth of fireworks, usually by kids on street corners aiming at expensive cars. We call this the time of the car alarm. You can hear little bangs and little ‘beep beep beep’ all night long. In the US of course, this is the point of the year that you start to eye up turkeys with a manic grin.

I mean, let’s face it. November, December? Bad time to be a turkey.

And as the Writers Guild Of America go on picket strike (although personally guys? Bad timing. If I was you, and wanted to picket in California? pick summer) we sit around our cathode ray tubes and wait for the current batch of new television to slowly drizzle to a stop while many of the writers, taking the ‘animation’ opt out clause picket and start writing comics.

But fear not, children! For The Gloom is here! We’re not affected by the Writer’s Strike or by the hordes of marauding, firework wielding turkey biker gangs that club together at this time! We’re still here to provide you a weekly fix of funtastic laughnation!

But of course, you must reply to us in the comments so we know who’s reading - last week we had four comments, and one was from a commenter explaining his mistaken comment… so three? Three comments? I have way more minions than that!

To hell with this. Where’s my picket sign! I’m on strike! More comments for struggling comic geniuses!….

The Gloom - Week 3

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, November 2 2007 at 8:32 am

And so we hit week three of our serial adaptation of The Gloom. We’ve had a couple of comments which is nice, but this week we want to know who’s reading this, who’s enjoying it, so everyone, please - leave a note in the comic comments column!

In other news, anyone in the UK rejoice! For I shall be signing copies of Hope Falls, Midnight Kiss and Starship Troopers books 1 and 2 next Saturday the 10th of November at the Leeds Thoughtbubble Comic Con - I think I might be on a panel or two, and have a signing time of 4pm - 5.30pm with Adi Granov and Barry Kitson, who are both way more famous than me and therefore will be signing much more that me…

Anyway, here are the comics!

The Gloom - Day 1

Posted by TonyLee on Friday, October 19 2007 at 3:54 am

The moment you’ve finally been waiting for has arrived!

Hi, I’m Tony Lee and today we start a journey that was never finished before, today we start with the weekly serialisation of Carson Kane, The Gloom. Created by Dan Boultwood and myself back in 2004, this is still my favourite ever piece of work, and the one thing that people still ask to see, even now.

Today, as a start I’ve given you a double dose - from next week we’ll be back to two pages a week. But enjoy, my friends - and remember to tell lots of people to read it, leave us comments and post in the forum.

And if you do like it, remember to check out Hope Falls, our next collaboration, out in November from Markosia…(www.hope-falls.com) Now go read. Go on. Read below. Stop reading this. Look at the pictures. Will you just go already?
