This isn’t Chemistry Set related, but we would be remiss if we didn’t mark the passing of one of the true legends of the comic book industry and truly, a revolutionary in the art of making comics. Will Elder was one of the artists who flourished in the ’50’s under Harvey Kurtzman at EC Comics. If at this point in your life, you haven’t read an EC Comic reprint, you really are missing out on innovation…innovations we take for granted now. I never met him, but we will all miss him. I’ll post any further details here as they come in. But for now, we’ll miss you, Will.

No, it’s not a given. Over at Newsarama, I talk to four retailers about how to improve your chances. Rory Root of Comic Relief (Berkeley, CA), Alex Cox of Rocketship, Andrew Neal of Chapel Hill Comics (Chapel Hill, NC), and Ben Trujillo of Star Clipper (St. Louis, MO) gave some great pointers.
Remember, the customer is always right! (Note: That would be retailers. :) )
Anyhoo, there’s some great advice there if you’re a creator or self-publisher. Check it out.

TODAY, May 14, marks my first work on a major title (a true franchise title). SUPERMAN #676 is in stores NOW!
Over on zee Facebook, I started a group called “Help Sell Out SUPERMAN #676.” The point of it is to create awareness among the comic book buying/reading public and also, to send a statement to DC and, you know, maybe help me get some more work up there :). If you’re on Facebook, please join the group and add me to your friends. This is a true grass roots movement, and I need everyone’s help. If you’re already in the group, thanks! To get to the group, just click the cover image above.
I really appreciate the help. If we all mobilize, we can make a real difference in this industry. Let’s show them what we can do.
Titans Together!
Tonight in NYC, I’m doing a signing at Jim Hanley’s Universe with Joe Kubert, among others. I hope you’ll stop by!

Welcome to the 66th installment of The Surreal Adventures of Edgar Allan Poo!
Well, no surprise here, but the Eagle Award went to Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier. There’s no shame in losing to Alan Moore! Just to be mentioned alongside Moore is a dream come true. So a giant-sized thank you to our many friends and supporters for voting for us!
Gods willing I’ll be at the Bristol Con next year to receive my first Eagle Award.
What? I can dream–right?
Until next week,
Dwight L. MacPherson (with Thomas Boatwright and Thomas Mauer)
