Welcome, boils and ghouls, to the very first page of Kid Houdini and the Silver Dollar Misfits!
If you grew up on The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Scooby Doo, Sherlock Holmes, or simply love a good mystery… boy, are you ever in for a treat!
Each story arc will chronicle a specific case. Our first case is titled “The Case of the Lost Miner’s Gold,” and it’s a doozy!
We appreciate you joining us on All Hallow’s Eve for this celebration of the life of one of the most enigmatic, revered and brilliant performers to ever live. The man is dead but his legend only continues to grow. It is fair to say that he achieved what he wished so desperately for in life: immortality.
Long live Kid Houdini and the Silver Dollar Misfits!
Until next week,
Dwight L. MacPherson (with Worth Gowell and Kevin Conley)

Welcome one and all to the 43rd installment of The Surreal Adventures of Edgar Allan Poo.
As you can see, our heroes are extremely resourceful–which is quite fortunate. They will need their wits about them if they are to accomplish their mission and reach the legendary Temple of the Maghi.
The graphic novel just receieved another glowing review on 3Rs Reading Den. Please take a few moments to check it out.
As always, thank you for reading and we’ll see you next week!

In a city called Flint, almost as ugly as the real one, something has begun to stir in the pockets of wet shadow. Under hood and mask and clad to the toetips in red, a man has emerged in the alleyways with no memories of his person, his place, or his purpose. A prophecy-mangling amputee has taken to holding court in the street. Several stories above it all, a selfless psychiatric visionary is about to unleash a catastrophic new weapon in the battle with mental illness. Threads of Red Jack is a search for identity, a fable about anger that has outlived its usefulness, and a throwdown between the madmen in power and the madmen with none.
Threads of Red Jack is a new series written by Daniel Kibblesmith and drawn by K. Thor Jensen, appearing exclusively on The Chemistry Set. Red Jack has previously appeared in the Dresden Dolls music video “Half Jack,” viewable here:

“I’m really looking forward to Threads of Red Jack,” said Chemistry Set co-founder, Vito Delsante. “I think of all the new creators and projects that we’ve brought on this year, Daniel and Thor’s collaboration is going to be a solid entertaining effort and should bring more faces to our readership. Threads is going to knock a lot of socks, and you can quote me.”
Daniel Kibblesmith was born in Oak Park, IL on the day of a prominent mushroom parade. His first comic book property, Dr. Dactyl was self-published at the age of three, and briefly adapted for television, until the static cling faded and the perforated pages slipped off the screen. He currently resides in Chicago, IL and supports himself by making graphics for a burgeoning online news empire, dividing his free time between crafting unfilmed scripts and unscripted video.
K. Thor Jensen was born in a hole and climbed up a mountain. He is the creator of Red Eye, Black Eye from Alternative Comics. He lives in Astoria, New York with his wife and family and has enough irons in the fire to brand all the cows in Texas. Threads of Red Jack is his first collaborative work.
The Chemistry Set is a destination for webcomics in a variety of styles from a variety of up & coming and established talent. Founded in 2006, The Chemistry Set boasts three Xeric Award winners and a combined bibliography including work for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Random House, Image Comics, SLG Publishing, Markosia and many others. Yikes! Sorry for the late update! My 6 year-old is extremely ill, so I’ve spent the majority of the day sitting in the Emergency Room. Sorry I’m late, but family first and all that.
Hope you enjoy the newest page and–gods willing–next week’s page will be posted promptly.

Leading up to the December debut of our new weekly strip, FCHS, Rachel and I thought it would be cool to introduce you to our cast, one member at a time. As the strip starts off during summer vacation right before Senior year, we figured you might have “missed” the previous three years, since they happened off panel. We’ve already met Kennedy Sanders, Julia Faraday, and Hector Smith. Today, we have Dane Foreman:
Rachel Freire: Smart, athletic, always willing to be a pal and help a fella out. A bit shy and oblivious when it comes to girls.
Vito Delsante: Dane represents my two best friends from school, one of them more than the other, at least when it comes to his family (in a completely unoriginal move, I actually named his younger siblings the same names as the real “Dane” but in my defense, I really like those names). Dane, the character, is, like Hector, optimized for the sake of the story. When you put Hector between Dane and Reilly (who we’ll meet soon), you can see the two extremes for how Hector sees himself. Dane is driven to success, which may or may not be due to the fact that his father is a constant presence in his life. For Hector, that means that Dane is not only his best friend, but his greatest competition. One thing I failed to mention is that Dane has a lifelong crush on Jules, which, if you remember the initial promo piece, had Jules thinking about Hector, Hector thinking about Kennedy and Kennedy thinking about Dane.

And yes, if you ask me, they are imagining their crush objects naked.

The moment you’ve finally been waiting for has arrived!
Hi, I’m Tony Lee and today we start a journey that was never finished before, today we start with the weekly serialisation of Carson Kane, The Gloom. Created by Dan Boultwood and myself back in 2004, this is still my favourite ever piece of work, and the one thing that people still ask to see, even now.
Today, as a start I’ve given you a double dose - from next week we’ll be back to two pages a week. But enjoy, my friends - and remember to tell lots of people to read it, leave us comments and post in the forum.
And if you do like it, remember to check out Hope Falls, our next collaboration, out in November from Markosia…(www.hope-falls.com) Now go read. Go on. Read below. Stop reading this. Look at the pictures. Will you just go already?

Welcome back to Kare-Kare Komiks!
Today we are serving a sumptuous surreal salad. Please wait a moment for the whole meal to load. It’s called “What Will You Bring?”, and it’s a bittersweet goodbye tale dedicated to Kare-Kare Komiks’ original home, Warren Ellis’ brilliant The-Engine.Net (R.I.P. 2005-2007). Kain na!

I hope you enjoyed this latest entry on the menu.
And with that, we conclude our weekly 5-course introduction of Kare-Kare Komiks. Did you miss the earlier stories? Check them out here:

‘Kare-kare’ is a traditional Filipino dish that incorporates various assorted ingredients into a delicious, meaty stew. ‘Komiks’ is a term for sequential art made in the Philippines, referring to Pinoy mass-produced newsprint comic books. Put these two together and you have Kare-Kare Komiks, the new semi-monthly webcomic only The Chemistry Set.
Kare-Kare Komiks is an ongoing collection of self-contained short comics by Andrew Drilon that explores new flavors of the sequential art experience.
Be here November 7 for our next delicious installment! Kare-Kare Komiks: every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, only on The Chemistry Set.
Maraming salamat!
-Andrew Drilon
