Kare-Kare Komiks : “Mang Tomas the Storyhunter”
Posted by AndrewDrilon on Wednesday, September 19 2007 at 12:31 pm
Welcome to Kare-Kare Komiks!
Let’s begin with a four-color meal. It’s called “Mang Tomas the Storyhunter”, and it was made especially for this grand opening. Kain na!

I hope you enjoyed my first entry on the menu. There’s definitely more to come.
Next Wednesday, I’ll be serving a sweet black and white delicacy called “The! Legend! Of! Caraboy!” There will be surprises, spills and a simple sentient bovine. Please stop by for another delicious read!
Maraming salamat!

Hi Emma sent me! Very amusing, but I’m wondering where the name Kare-Kare Komiks came from. See, my last name is Kare and it’s a higly unusual last name, so…

Also here via Emma Bull. This is short, fun and punchy. And yet the ideas will linger on…
What an excellent way to start.
I look forward to seeing what you do next.

This strip is glorious.
Emma Bull is a science-fiction and fantasy writer whose most recent book, Territory, mixes up the OK Corral with other things.

Wow, cool head trippy stuff, Andrew! Congrats on the gig! Looking forward to reading more.
Mary Kay, “Kare-Kare” is a popular Filipino dish for having lots of stuff in it. Kare-Kare has somewhat become another term to mean a mixture of a lot of different things. And I think Andrew’s first installment is so apt to the title. It’s crazy! :)

Mary Kay — That’s funny! What Gerry said, hehe, though I think your last name may have a totally different etymology. :)

Andrew!! This is brilliant, amazing! As what someone in the Litcritters said, “I don’t know much about this genre so I don’t know if this is the norm for you guys.” But I do know I loved this story of yours! Amazing! Will definitely be dropping by again. Good luck to you and congratulations! =)

Andrew: this is just plain excellent. playful, unexpected, and nothing like anything else I’ve seen in comics. Welcome to the fold and please keep it up!

(Hey, Mary Kay, Will! Long time, etc) I came here via T. Campbell, rather than Emma, but I am equally impressed. This is a lot more Moore (or Morrison) than just about anything else I’ve run across online so far.

Wow. Kare-Kare is my favorite food. This was some delicious kare-kare. Nice. Very nice.
… It sort of reminds me of the Doctor Thirteen backup, except this had better bagoong/alamang. :)

Here via Emma’s site too — and what a gem! All I can say is THANK HEAVENS for non sequiturs…..
Kare-kare is slurpy deliciousness if you’re fortunate enough to live near a Tagalog community, it can be bizarre, spicy, pungent and if a dish could be full of non sequiturs most certainly THAT one would be. Great graphics! I’m comin’ back for more…..

Kare-Kare Komiks is an ongoing collection of self-contained short comics by Andrew Drilon that explores new flavors of the sequential art experience. […]
